Today we have done 2 practical experiments on the seperation of plates and the collision of plates. As a result with plates that seperate, It showed that what ever colour somes up, the corresponding side will also rise up with the same colour in our practical. With the collision of plates, we found that when two stacks of a4 paper are colliding, they both bend creating an ‘m’ like shape, or one stack overlaps the other, or one stack diving under the other stack.

Tectonic Plates move very fast, generally a weak fault line causes a huge valley to be formed and magma fills it, the magma cools and hardens. In the practical with the plates seperating, the paper got higer then lower as it comes back down because the magma comes up fresh and then spreads and flattens due to gravity possibly. The strips that are moving out would be representing the old grounds being pushed away and the ones sprouting out would be the new and young.

1. Likes/Dislikes of Project? suggestions to improve?

I believe this project was quite fun as we did quite a number of practicals about light rays, convex, concave lens and some mirrors. I had nothing to dislike about the project and i thought the individual folders were quite a great a idea, it kept all my things together. Suggestions would be to change the folders to slip folders so we have sleeves to put our sheets in or give us some paper clips so we can stick together out sheets and pract reports.

2. Have you made any personal improvements from project 1 to project 4?

I find that I can fully write a science report now since project one, i believe i improved in that area. Also my organisation skills and team work skills i think have improved. Big difference from project 1 to project 4.

  1. Analyse why red sunsets can sometimes be more impressive when there is more dust or pollution in the air than usual.

Blue skies and red sunsets are caused not by refraction of sunlight, but by another phenomenon known as scattering in which molecules of gas and dust particles in the atmosphere alter the direction of light rays. Blue light is scattered more than the other colours of the spectrum, and the scattered blue rays seen against the dark background of space causes the sky to appear blue. At sunrise and sunset, when sunlight travels further through the atmosphere, almost all of the blue rays are scattered and the light that reaches us is mainly red or orange.

  1. Describe what happens inside water droplets to cause a rainbow and explain how you can tell whether a rainbow is a primary or secondary.

Small droplets of water behave like tiny prisms in the sky. Sometimes the colours will reach our eyes after refracting and undergoing total internal reflection.

Primary rainbow—a band in the sky with red at the top and blue at the bottom.

Secondary colourscyan, magenta and yellow

How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

I find it quite acceptable as when I’m watching things about the news, but it isn’t as great to watch if the media talks about social justice issues that are inaccurate.

Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?

Yes, it has been hard to find articles on social justice issues for example I find it hard to find multiple media things all talking about the same issue.

Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

I believe they do, this is because the reporters and journalists that collect the information for their media company just accept what they are given to be the truth. Sometimes they don’t go far enough to see if its true or not and therefore they are not reporting an article that’s accurate.

Fibre optic technology offers many advantages when used in medical applications.

describe how optical fibre may be used in medical applications

Fiber-optic communications is based on the principle that light in a glass medium can carry more information over longer distances than electrical signals can carry in a copper or coaxial medium.

identify the traditional medical techniques that optical fibres might replace

I don’t know, can’t find any information on it.

Evaluate the benefits of fibre optic technology to medicine

It has two very simple advantages it has over copper wires. It has the ability to transmit data at higher transmission rates and with lower losses and also the ability to do this at lower error rates, less chances of errors.

1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.
Describe what is a critique.

Critique is when you have an article and after reading it you then find the main points/facts on the particular topic and write them down. This will then make it a brief and short story but it should give the story well if you do the critiquing right.

2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.

  1. Introduction
  2. Summary
  3. Analysis
  4. Evaluation

3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.

A critique can be positive. For example the writer of the critique can acknowledge and complement good critical points of an article as well as how the article has been set up. Positive critiques are usually written if the article has been done excellently and was written on a very interesting topic. For example the Beijing Olympics facilities are done to the most interesting way that critiques are saying that their structures are the best display of engineering excellence to date.

4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

The Beijing Olympics: Are they a Trap?

The Beijing Olympics: Are They A Trap?

News report from the Onion News Network. There are claims that Beijing Olympics is going to be a trap. It is reported that China and the Beijing Olympics are just a giant trap and are going to take away Olympic athletes during the time of this event. It is said by this source that they have been preparing for the last 1000 years. Digging holes for athletes to fall into, training people in parks to become killing machines.

In this report on the Beijing Olympics, it was interpreted all wrong. They took the idea of the Chinese preparing for the Olympics to preparing to take over the people going there. For example, I quote, these Asian Chinese in their parks training to become killing machines. The whole story is basically a very big misunderstanding.

This article is just bad publicity to the upcoming Beijing Olympics. There is know point in this story, it just a comedic act.

2-Year-Old Donkey Called Up To Pro Donkey Basketball League

2-Year-Old Donkey Called Up To Pro Donkey Basketball League

This article is about a star rookie basketball donkey getting drafted into a major league team. This article does not really give a lot of information on weather this sport is real. The article treats a 2 yr old donkey as if it was Michael Jordan. They portrayed him as a superstar getting boosted up the ranks and that this sport is actually real. This article I name it as inaccurate information, just comedy show.

1. Name the issue
SBW should finish NRL season says Blanco - Moral Issue

2. Describe one media account of this issue

SBW is said to leave for France to play Rugby League and is breaking the contract deal between him and the Bulldogs.

3. Where did you get this media account from?

I did see this news report on the TV (channel 9) But I got the story from the Internet. website - yahoo7.com

4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?

This media account is not reliable due to the fact the there has been a whole bunch of reports manly due to the figures of what kind of money SBW will generate for the accepted contract offer.

5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?

There has been a lot of stories in the newspapers and some talk on the radio.

1. Name the issue

Qantas voice recorder overwritten - Moral Issue

2. Describe one media account of this issue

The media account where findings uncover that the Qantas flight that had to make the emergency landing in Manila a few days ago did not have any record on the on board black box of what had happened in the air. I consider this immoral as the black box on the plane could have had the answers that would potential save lives but was overwritten maybe due to the fact that Qantas does not want the public to know that flying with their airlines is not safe. This account is immoral because that black box can save many lives and as well money running investigations.

3. Where did you get this media account from?

I have found this account from the media TV. Specifically Channel Nine news website.

4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?

I would think this media account is correct and reliable because investigations have been made on the plane about his incident and that the reports of Channel Nine news have reported back live. Also people can access sites to counter check if the information is legitimate or made up.

5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?

The Public can find more information about this media account via the Qantas website which reports to the relatives and loved ones of the passengers what had happened and also people can get more information from Manila Airport website.

1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.

During this lesson, I have learnt what we will be producing through project 5 and who I will be working with throughout the project. We are to produce an episode for media watch about our current social justice issue today.

2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project.

Get to know how my group members work so I can rely on them finishing their work on time and occasionally check the rubric as for last project it was announced that alot of people missed out a few crucial parts before.

3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.

It can be resolved by having a well constructed group contract a rules that everyone can agree to and during group meetings, allow everyone have a say of their own word, hear people out.

How well did your group work?

My group worked really well, it was easy to cooperate with them because they’re good friends of mine and we all have our own unique specialties that we could share around.

Would you work with the same group of students again? Why?

Yes, I would work with the same students again, because we’re a good team and get the job done to a great standard.

How much effort did you put into this project? What could you have done better?

I felt that I put about 88 percent of my effort in this project because I always feel that I can do better at the things I do. After finishing something I always find ways that I could improve on the work.

Do you think your final wikispace was your best work? Why?

No, I feel that our wikispace could have been better but it was still great work by the group. Things could be improved on.

What did you think of the project when you received it? Why?

I thought it was going to be a fun project as it has got to do with creating your own image of Jesus, you had a great space that you could spread your imagination and creativeness.

What do you think of the project now you have completed it? Why?

It was a fun project to work on as it had given us a greater image of Jesus as we had before the project started.

What did you like in the project? Why?

I found that it was fun throughout the project. As the ist part was quite.

What did you not like in the project? Why?

There was nothing I didnt like about the project. Just the fact that I didnt pay attention to the rubric enough.

How can the teachers make your next project better?

I’m fine the way it is.
